Sierra Point, Slough,UPC Hotel and 400 Condominium complexBy Cyril G. BologoffCandidate for City Council member; City of Brisbane | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
SierraPoint is a 100 acre former dump site. Currently we have 2 hotels, and and 4 large multi story buildings, and a Marina. These proposed projects will fill this site.Universal Paragon is proposing a 5 star hotel anda 400 unit condominium project. Slough is proposing a 500,000 square foot biotech campus. While on the surface the revenue that will be generated is attractive and provides us the potential for additional facilities that we may need. It is not without complicated issues. Biotech has alarmed our citizens in the past and will continue to do so. Animal testing and developmnt of potentially dangerous projects were issues discussed by our residents in the past. Our community will demand answers to their concerns and I intend to get answers before approving the project. The condominiums will fragment the commmunity, geting those residents to feel as part of our community will be a challenge. They will place an extra burden on our services. The 5 star hotel will generate revenue but it will also generate demands for our current services. Will the revenue offset the costs remains to be seen. We as a community have to analyze the serious impacts and challenges that these projects pose to our small town. |
