Candidate for
City Council member; City of Redwood City

Alicia C. Aguirre is a professor at Caņada College. She has been there for 19 years and is teaching in the English Institute and the Spanish Department. She holds an M.A. in Education and has done Doctoral studies at the Universidad Iberoamericana. She was recently honored as a Fulbright Exchange Professor.

Alicia has been a long time resident and homeowner in Redwood City. She is married and has two sons. She has been very involved parent in her sons' school's committees and sports organizations including Little League, Pop Warner AYSO, and CYSA.

As an active community member, she has served on numerous boards in San Mateo County. These include Youth and Family Assistance, Service League of San Mateo County, Latina Mentor Advisory Council of the San Mateo County Office of Education, Redwood City Library Foundation, Young Latino Leaders, Hispanos Unidos, and the Mt. Carmel School Board. She also served on a statewide educational board. Alicia is also a graduate of the Leadership Redwood City Program and was on the steering committee for the Measure A School Bond. She served as the President of the Redwood City Elementary School Board, Vice President of the Service League of San Mateo County, Chair of the Finance Committee of the Service League, President of the Sequoia Awards Board, Executive member of Redwood City International, and the Garfield Charter School Board. Currently, she is serving as a Council Member on the Redwood City Council.
