Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Cat Tucker

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Gilroy

This information is provided by the candidate

Economic Development: We need revenue from our retail industry, but also need to induce other industries which pay more than minimum wage to locate in Gilroy. Our citizens need local, decent paying jobs. In office I would create a visioning plan towards this end.

Fiscal Responsibility: Budget deficits are now being projected for the City of Gilroy. I would implement increased visibility of the budget with standard combined budget reviews/workshops that would be detailed and in-depth. The Council should take quarterly action to direct and shape the City budget. In addition, we need to review and analyze the consequences of how Gilroy has implemented the use of incentives to attract retail businesses.

Community & Planned Growth: Housing and city planning form the infrastructure of a community, by promoting attainable housing and in-fill development we can strengthen our community. I would ensure we continue to involve the School District in planning for Gilroy's growth. Being able to provide our children with quality schools is vital. I will also continue the effort to build our Arts & Culture Center, an important way to promote creativity and community.
