No statement on ballot, signs, and other things that cost $$$

By Donald L. "Don" (Stahl) Ricco, Jr.

Candidate for Council Member; City of Novato

This information is provided by the candidate
Why I have no candidate statement on the ballot, why I don't have lots of signs, fliers, and mailings.
Many people have been asking me why I do not have a "candidate statement" in the ballot that has recently been sent to Novato voters. I wanted to take this opportunity to inform voters that individual candidates must pay $347 to file a candidate statement. I mention this because many people are unaware of the financial inequities that are present even in our official ballots. As many of you know, I am not doing fundraising because when I am elected I do not want to owe any favors to developers, special interests, or a wealthy few. I will speak for all of you, whether you have money or not. Furthermore, the $347 may seem like small change to some but represents 6 months of PG&E for my wife and I, and thousands of other working class Novatoans.

There are two reasons I don't have more signs. 1 is environmental! The signs you see around town were manufactured - trees were used, inks, machines, the works! Very bad for our planet!!! And 2 is budget! I am only spending $25, not the $50,000 the others are spending! See, I'm saving you money already!!!

And as a footnote - the 3 signs that are on canvas (and painted by my wife!) will be whitewashed over and donated to Ms. Ottoboni's class at Lynwood Elementary for art projects! Can the other candidates do that with their signs???

Remember, if you want to make your own signs in support of me, please do so!

From the Marin I.J.: "Newcomer Donald Ricco Jr., 37, a letter carrier, said a train station at Hamilton is necessary. "I'd support anything that addresses the traffic issue and a station there seems like a good idea," Ricco said. "It would attract riders from the Alameda del Prado and Ignacio side where most people don't have access to automobiles. A stop at Hamilton is absolutely necessary.""

"Ricco said he was probably running the leanest campaign of all, choosing to spend no more than $25, which went for the filing fee. Ricco said he had not spent any money on signs or campaign literature, and is using the Internet through a MySpace account to promote his campaign.

"I want a seat on the City Council but I don't want to harm the environment," Ricco said."

Those voters who wish to know about my stance on important issues can consult http://www.myspace.com/votefordon and read my blog!
