This information is provided by the candidate
A career of service to San Rafael
BACKGROUND

Bob Marcucci served as the San Rafael Fire Chief for 32 years and has extensive experience in both local government and community service.

Bob holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and currently works as an independent contractor, assessing and improving fire departments in California and Nevada.

Bob serves locally on several Boards of Directors including:

+Marin Conservation Corps

+Rotary Manor of San Rafael

+Marin History Museum

+Marin County Leadership Council for the American Red Cross

In addition, Bob and his wife, Pam, have been a residents of San Rafael and the Sun Valley neighborhood for over 45 years, a fact that he considers a very important qualification for the San Rafael City Council. Bob and Pam have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.

COMMITMENT TO SAN RAFAEL

Bob's continuing commitment to public service began when he was a child, learning the value of public service from his father, who served as a Fire Chief in San Anselmo for many years.

Bob is a candidate for City Council because he believes San Rafael government can better address the needs and issues of the community through a more collaborative process with other social and governmental agencies.

Bob considers community involvement an important way to assess neighborhood and residential needs and to determine changes that will benefit the many diverse communities within our own city. Incorporating the citizen's viewpoints is paramount to enhancing the community's quality of life and the viability of our city. Bob is committed to bringing local government to all neighborhoods in San Rafael.

SUCCESSFUL RECORD OF PUBLIC SERVICE

As Fire Chief, Bob's innovative ideas and programs, addressing neighborhood and citizen issues, were recognized by the League of California Cities which honored the San Rafael Fire Department with the Helen Putnam Award for Community Fire Servicing. Other recent awards include:

+State of California Fire Chief of the Year -2000

+Italian-American Citizen of the year -2003

+San Rafael Chamber of Commerce Roger Grossman Community Leadership Award -2004

Bob was also honored in 2004 by The Federation of San Rafael Neighborhoods for his partnership and active involvement with residents as well as his pro-active approach to the health and safety of the community.

As San Rafael Fire Chief, Bob created a Hazardous Materials Division in the Fire Department and, in partnership with Marin Sanitary Service, helped create and implement a Household Hazardous Waste Program to assist with environmental concerns. Marcucci created the Fire Department's Emergency Communications Center and partnered with Marin Abused Women's Services to designate fire stations as immediate safe havens for abused women. Bob also began a partnership with the Neighborhood Associations to assist residents with removal and management of flammable vegetation, thus reducing the wildland fire threat to their homes and neighborhoods. As a member of the Board of Directors for the Marin Conservation Corps, Bob has been instrumental in enabling a diverse group of youth and young adults to transform their lives through education, employability, civic engagement, and leadership.

Marcucci initiated the first paramedic ballot measure in 1979. This ballot measure is the same funding vehicle for the paramedic program citizens enjoy today. Recognizing the need for paramedic service, Bob initiated the paramedic service area to also include Marinwood and the unincorporated areas surrounding San Rafael. He was also responsible for extending City fire protection to the unincorporated areas contiguous to the City through a contract with the Marin County Board of Supervisors and by partnering with the Marinwood Community Service District. These strategies provide expeditious fire and emergency medical response to residents in North San Rafael.
