• Parent of two children attending the Mill Valley Schools, and resident of Mill Valley since 1990

• Ph.D. in Biophysics from the State University of New York at Buffalo

• Research Scientist and Adjunct Professor at UCSF for 12 years

• Currently Professor and Chair of Microbiology at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, and director of a research laboratory working on the therapy of oral cancer and HIV/AIDS (http://dental.pacific.edu/Research/Microbiology/Duzgunes/default.htm)

• Teaching awards from the University of the Pacific and the American Dental Association

• Experience in grant writing, grant management and developing and implementing budgets

• Volunteer for AFS Intercultural Programs for 17 years

• Parent volunteer at Strawberry Point School since 2000

• Founding Member of "It Takes a Village" Special Education PTA and an advocate for children with learning differences
