Mayor Boro is a retired executive of Pacific Bell. He was elected to the San Rafael City Council in 1987 after serving 16 years as a memeber of the San Rafael Planning Commission. In November 1991, he was elected to a four-year term as Mayor, and he was re-elected to additional four-year terms in November 1995, 1999, and 2003. As a member of the Marin County Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Cultural Commission since 1969, Mayor Boro has been responsible for helping to acquire 9,700 acres of open space throughout Marin County. His vast community service includes serving as former Chair for the Marin County Council of Mayors and Councilmembers and the Marin Commission on the Homeless, the Marin County Parks Commission, the San Rafael Child Care Task Force, the Central Marin Sanitation Agency, and the Marin County Fair Board of Directors. Mayor Boro is also a member of the Boy Scouts of America Marin Council Executive Board, and is past President of the Marin Forum. In August of 1992, Mayor Boro was appointed director of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District representing the cities of Marin County. He currently serves as the 1st Vice President of the Board of Directors, as Chair of the Governmental Affairs and Public Information Committee for the District, as well as Chair of the Ad Hoc Officers' Evaluation and Search Committee. In 2000, Mayor Boro was appointed by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation Disctrict as the Bridge's Representative to the Bay Area Water Transit Authority. For the past several years, Mayor Boro has also represented the City of San Rafael on the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM). In this capacity he is working with all Marin cities and the County to implement Measure A, the Transportation Sales Tax passed by the voters in 2004. He is also working with Sonoma county on long-term transportation solutions for the two counties. He is currently serving as Vice Chair of TAM, and Past Chair of SMART (Sonoma/Marin Area Rail Transit), whose mission is to establish a commuter rail line from Cloverdale to Larkspur. In September of 1998, the Marin Medical Society presented to him the William J. Filante M.D. Award for Outstanding Legislative Service for 1998, and in October of 1998, he received the Marin County Italian-American Citizen of the Year Award from the Cristoforo Colombo Club of Marin. In March of 2000, Mayor Boro was recognized by the Marin Division of the American Heart Association and Whistlestop. In 2004 he was named Distinguished Citizen by the Boy Scouts of America. In 2005 the Western Fairs Association presented him with a Blue Ribbon Award for his dedication and service to the Marin County Fair. Mayor Boro was born and raised in San Francisco and has a degree in Businesss Administration from the University of San Francisco. He and his wife Pat have four grown children and have lived in San Rafael since 1966. |
