As a Trustee for the South Whittier School District for almost 18 years I understand that there are 5 board members each with 1 vote on any issue that comes before the board. A board member must have the interest in ALL students being successful as well as understanding the finances and legal responsibilities of the district. My priorities have always been:

  • Student Achievement for ALL Students
  • Safe School Environments for Learning and Teaching
  • Encourage Parent and Community Involvement
  • Hiring Qualified Teachers
  • Sound Fiscal Management
  • Strengthen Intervention Programs
  • Professional Development for Teachers
  • Accountability at All Levels
  • More Technology for Students and Staff

I believe in accountability at all levels of education. This requires regular evaluation of the superintendent, the school board, administrators and of teachers. Students need to be tested regularly to assure they are learning the state standards set for each grade level. Parents and guardians should recieve regular notification of students performance and needs and with that notification they should participate responsibly to support their students higher achievement. I believe with these pieces in place every student can be successful.

This school board has hired a very competent and experienced superintendent, Dr. Erich Kwek. Dr. Kwek received a very secure 5-0 vote from the current school board. I look forward to supporting Dr. Kwek and the goals of this community, parents, and governance team to meet the needs of our students. I stongly believe in School Governance and have been a student of governance for all my years of service. I have completed training in both a Masters in Boardsmanship and Masters in Governance programs. With this training and experience I believe I have always demonstrated that I am a respected, responsible, effective and proven leader. I have taken the needs and positions of this community to all levels of government by serving as a leader at a variety of levels; President and member of the Whittier Area School Trustees Assoc., President and member of the Los Angeles County Trustees Assoc., Delegate to the California School Boards Assoc., Director-Region 24 and current Board of Directors Member to the California State School Board Assoc. With these experiences I have not only carried our message to others but returned with information and contacts for the South Whittier School District.
