Position Paper: Public SafetyBy Thomas F. PalmeriCandidate for Council Member; City of Covina | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Protecting the safety of the Public is the highest priorityPublic Safety is more than just having a lot of cops. It is having a properly trained police force, fire department, and paramedics on duty 24 hours a day in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of the public. Whether or not the utility tax continues after 2009 it is important to maintain Public Safety. If the tax does not pass in 2007, it will still continue to 2009 so I do not support making cuts in public safety, there is no need. We will still have two years to make plans. If the tax does pass in 2007 and is extended from 2009 to 2019 then I strongly support using excess funds to hire additional patrol officers and create a stronger police presence on the streets. Fire and Paramedic services are contracted through the Los Angeles County Fire Department and they have provided stellar service to Covina residents. |
