Dierking has high-level knowledge and experience on criminal justice matters. JOHN DIERKING advocates a strong public safety community orientation, and has the knowledge and experience to implement citywide improvements. Dierking is a former member of the California Council on Criminal Justice, and has worked with state and local officials, and non-profit organizations on matters related to the delivery of services to combat juvenile crime, improve the probation system, improve victim-witness recovery, end domestic violence and elder abuse, and measures to eliminate street gangs. DIERKING was appointed pursuant to California Penal Code Section 13810 to the California Council on Criminal Justice. Included in its membership are the following members: the Attorney General; the Administrative Director of the Courts; 19 members appointed by the Governor, including the Commissioner of the Department of the Highway Patrol, the Director of the Department of Corrections, the Director of the Department of the Youth Authority, and the State Public Defender; eight members appointed by the Senate Rules Committee; and eight members appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly. The purpose of the Council is to act as the supervisory board of the state planning agency pursuant to federal acts. This agency is housed in the Office of the Governor. Dierking worked with both a Republican and a Democratic governor. The Council annually reviews and approves, or reviews, revises and approves, the comprehensive state plan for the improvement of criminal justice and delinquency prevention activities throughout the state, it establishes priorities for the use of such funds as are available pursuant to federal acts, and approves the expenditure of all funds pursuant to such plans or federal acts. DIERKING will bring this knowledge and experience to work for the community of Azusa. |
