Political Philosophy for Jennifer L. Brunner

I was inspired to run for this office because of the dismal way I saw Ken Blackwell handle the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio. With the election law experience and background I have developed over the years, I have genuine enthusiasm for free, fair, open, and honest elections in Ohio. I can promise you I will work hard to be elected and, once elected, to gain Ohioans' and the nation's trust in and respect for the integrity of our state's election system and the office of Ohio Secretary of State. I have dedicated most of my professional life to protecting and improving ways for people to participate in their government. In addition to running a private elections law practice for 13 years, I bring experience as a former Franklin County Board of Elections member, Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge, and Deputy Director and Legislative Counsel for former Ohio Secretary of State Sherrod Brown. My three-part plan includes (1) verifiable and audited election results, (2) restoration of trust in Ohio's election process, and (3) leadership that upholds Ohioans' values. I bring unrivalled experience to this position as an election law attorney for 13 years, a common pleas court judge, a deputy director to former Ohio Secretary of State Sherrod Brown, handling legislation for that office and for the 88 county boards of elections, and serving as a member of the Franklin County Board of Elections. In my jobs as Judge, member of the Franklin County Board of Elections and Deputy Director and Legislative Counsel to the Ohio Secretary of State, I took oaths to uphold the laws and constitution of the United States and State of Ohio, and I took those oaths to heart. As Secretary of State, I will use that same vigor to protect the rights of individuals in Ohio's most basic democratic process--voting. I have loved my work with elections. I offer leadership that is based on experience, knowledge and dedication to how elections must be conducted in Ohio. It starts with a fair process in which all are encouraged and given the opportunity to fully participate.
