Questions & Answers

1. The American occupation in Iraq continues to be enormously costly in dollars and in lives. What is your position on how our government should proceed?

The invasion of Iraq was the single biggest strategic blunder in the history of the United States. There is now no American military solution to the ongoing problems in Iraq; there is only an Iraqi solution. We must immediately redeploy our troops to more effectively combat the threat of terrorism.

2. What is your impression of the roll-out of the Medicare Prescription Drug program so far, and what changes would you propose to make it better?

In Medicare Part D, the "D" stands for disaster. We need a prescription drug plan that benefits seniors by lowering prices and increasing access, not a program written by lobbyists that benefits only pharmaceutical companies. Medicare should be allowed to negotiate for discounts and enrollment must be made less confusing.

3. Where do you stand on the current balance between security and civil rights?

As a Naval officer, I took an oath to defend this nation and our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. We must do everything possible to secure ourselves against the possibility of another terrorist attack, but we must do so without abrogating the fundamental rights protected by the Constitution.
