I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. After college and military service in the army, I was hired by the Air Reduction Company and worked in a number of mid-west and east coast locations.I then took a two year leave of absence to return to graduate school and received my MBA in Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. After rejoining Airco I worked in regional offices and production facilities before I was transferred to the New York corporate office to develop new distribution systems. In 1964 I joinied Standard Brands in their new Distribution Division as Distribution and Inventory Planning Manager. In 1966 after moving from New York City to Westchester, I joined General Foods and worked in their coffee and distribution divisions before transferring to GFI as Distribution Planning Manager. In 1968 I was transferred to Italy and in 1969 moved to Brussels. My responsibilities included distribution systems, purchasing and capacity planning. In early 1974 I joined Carnation International in Brussels Belgium and late that year relocated to Los Angeles. My department's operational scope included either direct or sign off responsibility for purchasing operating raw material and supplies with annual expenditures in excess of $350 million dollars, inventory planning for all operating units, distribution system development, Asia-Pacific export sales and direct sales to Bangaladesh Distributors. Nestle bought Carnation in 1984 and I spent 1985 closing up our international operating commitments. I was then appointed US Director of Product Out Sourcing. At that time I determined there was still an international demand from small, independent national companies for the services we had provided CI affiliates and I resigned in 1986 to start my own service company. I provided purchasing and market research services for individual off-shore operating companies as well as consulting on US-AID projects until 2000 when I essentially closed my business. After a short " vacation" and unwilling to be inactive, I looked for interesting possibilities and discovered WORK,INC, an organization affiliated with the United Cerebral Palsey organization and committed to assisting adults with disabilities enter the work force. I joined the organization as a job developer and for the last five years this experience has been, and continues to be, an extraordinarily positive experience. |
