When I graduated from the University of Colorado, I had already started my first business. I found that with just four employees the government was making more money than I was off of the business I had started. I was bothered by the fact that for every dollar received by an employee fifty to sixty cents had to be paid to the government to pay for social security, unemployment, workmen's compensation, and the employees federal taxes. So if I were to give an employee a dollar an hour raise the employee would get only 70% of that dollar and the business would have to pay an extra 30 cents for every dollar paid. Then I got a property tax form from the County of Boulder that said list everything you own. I thought WOW a government that demands that you list all that you own can take everything you have, and isn't it nice that your providing them with a list? That was my eye opener and that is what caused me to become politically aware. I changed my registration from Democratic to Libertarian. So I fit the adage of having a heart in being liberal in youth, and having a brain in being conservative as an adult. Ever since collage, I have been self-employed.
