Political Philosophy for Michael Norton
Candidate for |
The focus of my campaign is about healthcare, not politics. Healthcare in Sonoma Valley is at a crossroads and the effectiveness of the healthcare district's governance is in question. I will utilize my qualifications and experience to help the board regain the public's trust and confidence. I will maintain a cooperative and respectful relationship with fellow board members and look for new ways to emphasize community education and public awareness. This dialogue will need to continue throughout the board's deliberation process. It will be vitally important to build upon the strong foundation laid by the community coalition. As the deliberation process concludes, all viable options will have been explored and it will be necessary to finalize a "shared vision" for a new hospital that is acceptable to our entire community. The new facility will need to be operationally efficient while providing the services necessary to satisfy our local healthcare needs. The new hospital plan must be capable of attracting physicians and other healthcare professionals of the highest quality. While its construction costs must be modest and affordable, the hospital's operation must effectively accommodate new healthcare technology and must be sustainable and adaptable to future changes. Overlaying these issues is the need to have a clear and realistic financial plan as we enter the last few months of our parcel tax funding. I will maintain an effective line of communication with the hospital leadership in order to effectively oversee this process. |
