County Supervisor; County of San Luis Obispo; Supervisorial District 2

When I walk the hills above the orange grove on our ranch in Cayucos - alone with my dog Kirby - I often stop for a moment of thanks. Like most of us here on the Central Coast, I'm grateful for my family, our bountiful land, my community and my country.

It's an auspicious time to be living here, a time filled with the promise of a well-lived life. Just about every time I gaze upon the emerald hills around my home, I think: This is wonderful, I hope it doesn't change.

To be honest, though, we know change is coming. Today, we see the growth pressures that threaten our county's core qualities because so many people love this place. We also know this: powerful forces are at work trying to change things, not for our benefit, but for the gain of a few with narrow self interests.

We can't be passive in the face of coming changes. Left unchallenged, narrow interests might shape a future we won't like much. Lots of folks are talking about our county's future. I hear it in conversations from San Simeon to Los Osos to San Luis Obispo.

I'm running for county supervisor because I believe we CAN shape our own future here - if we come together, hold county government accountable, and make good choices now on some tough issues. Growth doesn't have to ruin the things we love. I offer leadership toward a bright future, both for us and the generations that follow.
