Candidate for Board Member; Dehesa School District

I have business experience and currently collaborate on multi-million dollar project. I know the value of a dollar and remember what it was like to make that dollar stretch. I understand the way schools are funded. The majority funding comes from Average Daily Attendance (ADA) which means students must be enrolled and attending school for the district to get funding dollars. Additional monies come through state and federal categorical funding, grants, and donations. The budget crunch for Dehesa is transparent; we need more students who want to attend our school.

Those of us who attended school in the Dehesa District know its strengths. However, there are families living in the area who do not know the value of our small community district. We need to aggressively market our schools. We need to communicate our impersonal. Our API score is improving and we have new leadership with a goal: "the Dehesa School District will become a high performance district." We have adequate staff to enroll approximately 20 more students who could benefit from a small school environment with personalized attention.

We also need to communicate our plan to improve school programs. As we enroll more students, we will receive more funding and we can implement or improve additional programs such as music, art, gifted and talented and special education. We also need to make sure our Charter School is meeting the educational needs of those students who desire home schooling.

If I am elected to the Dehesa Board, I will make ADA and student program improvement priorities. I believe our small school environment is a positive; it will be my responsibility to maximize school funding so that we can have the programs and staff needed for excellence.
