My Plan For Vista's FutureBy George W. MantorCandidate for Mayor; City of Vista | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
With a central location and great climate, Vista has great untapped potential. But failed leadership over 21 years has left the city out of cash and bankrupt of ideas. See what needs to be done.First - paint Vista Sometimes one little thing can make a difference. Criminologists agree that the appearance of a community is one of the most powerful influencers of crime. Vista is just eighteen square miles. It is finite and its boundaries are definable. I want us to take back every wall, every fence, every curb, sign and sidewalk from those who would deface it and having done that, never give it up again. We will answer fire with fire, in this case paint. Paint will be our weapon in the war on crime. The paint brush and roller will be our symbols. Second - enforce the Municipal Code Too many cars, too many inhabitants, junk, noise, exposed untreated wood and so on are all prohibited by the Municipal code, but we are not enforcing it consistently. Third - equip the Sheriff for success According to the Vista Sheriff's Captain, three 24/7 deputies and two motorcycle units would enable the sheriffs to adequately address the crime problem. What we would get in return A better looking, safer, less foreboding community that would attract more people to the Farmers Market, the Wave, Avo, Moonlight Amphitheater, Feeling more comfortable, they would linger in the shops and restaurants. Their increased spending would attract more and better retailers and services. This would lead to higher sales tax revenues without increasing the tax rate. As the community becomes more desirable, property values would increase and higher revenues would result without raising taxes. Along the way the city would be receiving increasing revenues from multiple sources and those revenues could be used to further enhance the quality of life in our city.
