Please don't vote for me!

By David E. "Dave" McCabe

Candidate for Director; Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency; Division C

This information is provided by the candidate
A short list of reasons not to vote for me.
Against my own better judgement, and the advice of my wife and family, I have thrown my waders into the ring and decided to run for the Board of Directors of the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency (PVWMA) again. But wait, don't vote for me !

Don't vote for me if you believe the following:

PVWMA was smart to sue us all and itself to confirm what it's legal advisors had told it for years. "It has the obligation and authority to solve the Pajaro Valley seawater intrusion and overdraft problem".
PVWMA has wisely spent millions on layers of overlapping consultants and attorneys and has received and followed their sage advice, and further, that the many years of delay caused by this "Fiddle while Rome burns.." approach will deliver an affordable and effective project.
PVWMA is justified to have built a bloated bureaucracy that has grown 300% in the last ten years of studying " the problem", and despite it's legion of advisers it is ok that it now has fifteen fulltime employees, most of whom do not live within the PVWMA boundaries, and therefore pay no water fees.
PVWMA is right to avoid involvement in the fluoridation battle, and that it is appropriate to use domestic water supplies as a means for delivering medications.
PVWMA should pay for the total cost of building the upgrade to the City of Watsonville sewage treatment plant which will provide some supplemental water to farmers, because the sole motivation for the City to cooperate is it's wish to maintain agriculture in The Valley, and not to promote urban growth as some have suggested.
PVWMA should build a pipeline to import treated sewage water that Gilroy has been attempting for years to dump into the Pajaro River.
PVWMA has done a good job of promoting water conservation.

If, on the other hand, you think it is high time that PVWMA get on with solving the problem by bringing to the voters it's FINAL and best plan for an up or down vote on a two thirds required basis, then consider voting for me. .

It is long past time to prune the burgeoning bureaucracy that has caused the PVWMA to resemble the "Michelin Man", and high time that the residents of the Pajaro Valley are presented with a plan that effectively addresses overdraft while maintaining our rich agricultural heritage. We have studied this issue to death. It is time for PVWMA to fulfill it's charter or close shop! If you disagree, then "Please don't vote for me!".
