The Arts are Essential

The arts are important for their own sake and enhance learning in all subjects
Education in the arts is closely linked to higher academic achievement. The Santa Cruz community values artists and the arts in our schools. Over the years even with tight funding our school district has tried to maintain our arts programs. However, with the new emphasis on state and federal mandates, i.e. No Child Left Behind, arts programs along with other electives are being squeezed out of the curriculum. This must not happen. The development of the creative potential of students is essential if we want out students to compete in the world and experience enriched lives.
