Questions & Answers

1. What experience related to city government would you bring to the City Council?

Since first elected in 2002 and now the current mayor, I have spent the past 4-years working to improve the quality of life for Los Altos Hills.

It has been rewarding to be part of a city council that has accomplished many good things that required innovation and leadership. I have learned that representing the resident's interests is not a simple task of black and white decisions. Almost every issue carries shades of nuance between simplistic extremes that take thoughtful analysis, experience, and clarity of input from the residents.

I believe the last 4-years has equipped me better than ever to represent all of the residents of the Town.

2. What concerns are of particular importance to the city and how would you address them?

Important work that needs to be addressed is: public education, infrastructure improvements, enhanced recreational opportunities, fiscal management, and preservation of our quality of life.

My priorities are to bring the public education issue to the voters allowing for their decision on the important decision of reorganizing elementary school education; continue the development of a master sewer plan; increase the installation of cell towers; oversee the pilot project for undergrounding of utilities to increase reliability, safety, and aesthetics; maintain our fiscal reserves while continuing to ensure that our capital projects are completed; develop more recreational opportunities for our residents; preserve our rural ambience of the Hills thereby enhancing our quality of life.

3. How would you balance the needs of the City as a whole with groups' interests?

Our Town was founded 50 years ago to preserve the rural ambience of the community and enhance the quality of life for its residents.

Our core values stem from those founding principles.

As stated before, I have learned that representing the resident's interests is not a simple task of black and white decisions. Almost every issue carries shades of nuance between simplistic extremes that take thoughtful analysis, experience, and clarity of input from the residents.

At each public hearing, I want to ensure that the residents know that they have been heard. While decisions may be made that groups' may not believe to be in their interest, at least they will understand that they were dealt with fairly and that the Town's core values were considered and protected.
