Political Philosophy for Joe Pirzynski

Having a leadership role in Los Gatos has been both challenging and rewarding. I pride myself on being available and responsive to all members of our community. The willingness of individuals and neighborhoods to ask for my assistance in times of need has been very gratifying, and has confirmed for me that small town government is government at its best. I am particularly proud of our accomplishments during my eight year tenure as mayor and councilmember, including the initiation and enhancement of community events like the 4th of July Celebration, Screen on the Green, Jazz on the Plazz, Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival, and Music in the Park. These events provide opportunities for us to experience more completely the charms of small town life. We have provided opportunities for members of our community to become more involved with government through Leadership Los Gatos, the Youth Commission, and live broadcast of Council Meetings on KCAT. We have enhanced our infrastructure by completing the renovation of Town Plaza Park, the repair of North Santa Cruz Avenue and Main Street, and the development of the Civic Center Master Plan for new library and police facilities. Nonetheless, there is still much to be done. Our economy continues to put at risk the proactive approach we have taken to enhancing public services and facilities. Traffic calming and street repair remain significant priorities for all our neighborhoods. Even though much has been accomplished, the needs of our youth must be better addressed. We must remain vigilant to the impacts of residential and commercial development, and the risks of overdevelopment to small town community life. Although we have made great strides on these issues, we have much yet to achieve. The last eight years as Town Councilmember and Mayor have provided me the experience necessary to respond to the next critical period of our history. I will continue to use my background and experience to bring direction and stability to the council and evolve appropriate solutions to the challenges we continue to face as a community. By working together, we can guarantee Los Gatos will continue to be the best place in the entire valley to live, work, raise a family, and experience community. |
