2006 Campaign Ballot StatementBy Bernard BowlerCandidate for Board Member; Sacramento City Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My experiences as an Air Force Officer, IBM businessman, parent, and grandparent have taught me that adults have a duty to prepare all children to succeed in school, in work, and as productive citizens. For 15 years, I worked to improve schools for all students at all levels of education. I served on Mayor Serna's 1995 school improvement committee. I recently co-chaired the Blue Ribbon Commission to raise student achievement in Sacramento City Unified School District. I co-founded LEED, a business and schools coalition focused on giving students the skills needed to succeed in the workplace. I am a public commissioner of WASC, which accredits California colleges. As a board member, I will work for high expectations and academic standards, superior teachers and support staff, first-rate programs and materials, and safe, well-maintained schools. I will reach out and listen to parents, educators, students, and community members. Community leader endorsements: Jerry Chong, Sonney Chong, Steve Cohn, Illa Collin, Roger Dickinson, Heather Fargo, Rob Fong, Roger Niello, Don Nottoli, Susan Peters, Sandy Sheedy, Darrell Steinberg, Robbie Waters, Jimmie Yee.
