Candidate StatementBy Michael Martinez ScottCandidate for Board Member; Corona-Norco Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Competency for officeI am the only candidate who has instructed on the elementary, secondary, and university levels - Adjunct Professor at California Baptist, National University, and Biola University. I've taught 18 years in public classrooms (ten years in Corona) and have a masters in Education Administration. Last year, my elementary school increased 53 API points, 100% more than the most improved school in Corona. In my classroom, 74% of my students increased a quintile (moved up a level of achievement). My experience is first-hand. My chief concern is Corona's high schools. When Corona's best high school's API scores are compared to schools in Orange County, they rank in the bottom 33%, a decline from three years ago when their scores were at 40%. Corona-Norco needs new leadership! I have a strategy. Corona needs a college prep high school. Also, I will implement the following Effective School Correlates (http://www.effectiveschools.com/freestuff.asp), researched-proven principles used by effective schools:
This equals trust . . . trust I learned from my grandmother, Frances Aldama Martinez, an influential Corona resident for 89 years. See more at http://www.ELECTmikeSCOTT.com. |
