Candiate Statement: My name is Kent Perry and I'm 52 years old. I am married, my wife's name is Natascha and we have 2 young boys Alexander who is 5 and Christian who is 4. I am a graduate of Eastern Michigan University where I received my B.S. degree in Computer Science and M.L.S. degree in Technology. Natascha and I moved to Temecula 5 years ago from Hackettstown, NJ to work for Hudson RCI as a Business Analyst where I managed the company's production planning, materials management and quality management modules in the company's corporate computer system. Since then I have worked for NBC Universal Studios and now Kyocera International in a similar capacity. To understand my occupation and why I am qualified to be a TVUSD trustee my occupation requires that I organize and lead budgeted projects which I adopt business methodologies related to cost accounting, purchasing, inventory management, and manufacturing process (to name a few) into a tier 1 computer system. At work, I am characterized as team leader, along with being a problem solver and creative thinker to implement common sense solutions. In my early 20's, I volunteered as a high school ski coach and in my mid 30's I volunteered as a grant writer for a start-up charter school in Detroit, MI. As a candidate, I have no hidden agenda or endorsements to influence my thoughts or decisions. I would be an individual elected by the people of this district to serve in the best interest of TVUSD students and their parents. I will ask the tough questions of our administrators and ask them to justify their decisions. My goals are to apply my business skills to elevate the districts need to facilitate financial discipline and stress accountability as a means of measuring the persons responsible for his/her spending performance. What I mean by this and what the audit has proven to me, the funds are collectively managed at to high a level and need to be broken out to provide better visibility in our spending and financial surpluses at lower levels (i.e. What is are financial position at month end by cost center? Are we spending to plan?). I also perceive a strong need to evaluate our current business practices to identify areas that add no value to the districts goals and pass those savings on to curriculums that need funding. I will challenge the district to provoke innovative ideas and to make our schools best-in-class. There is no excuse to let practical ideas fall on deaf ears! We must organize these ideas for public discussion and offer the community an opportunity to decide on the districts direction. |
