I am forty-four years old, and have been employed in the fire service since 1980 with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. I have worked my way up the ladder from seasonal firefighter to my current assignment as a Fire Captain in the City of Moreno Valley in Riverside County. I have been active in the CDF-Firefighters Local 2881 for many years as a convention delegate, and held various positions at both the chapter and region levels. I have attended six conventions as a delegate for my union's San Diego chapter, and one national convention as an alternate. I have been a member of the executive board for the San Diego chapter as a rank and file representative, vice-president and president during a seven year period. Additionally, I have held the position of vice president at the regional or District VI level for about five years with the CDF-Firefighters Local 2881. I was an original member of the State of California's Work and Family Committee for Governor Gray Davis. This labor-management committee was task with developing a more family friendly work environment for all state departments. I served for about three years. My wife and I were instrumental in starting the Auxiliary to the CDF-Firefighters Local 2881. This auxiliary has a mission of giving support to family members during traumatic events. This includes assisting with funeral arrangements and lending emotional support for our members and their families during major accidents involving fire equipment and serious injury or illness of firefighters and their families. My wife, Monica, is employed as a Health Clerk in the TVUSD. We have two children. Our daughter attended Sparkman Elementary school from kindergarten through fifth grade and is now a sixth grader at Eagle's Peak Creative Arts Academy, a public charter school in Temecula. Our son is now in second grade at Sparkman Elementary School. We have lived in Temecula since 1997. |
