Political Philosophy for Stephen B. Clayton
Candidate for |

|
In March 2002, the Hemet City Council appointed me to complete the term for the vacant office of City Clerk. The appointment was based on my education and prior experience in local government. This varied education and experience has proven invaluable in working with the City Council, Department Heads, and Hemet residents. As the Hemet City Clerk for the Past 4 years, I have been an active participant in both General and Strategic planning sessions. These plans have set the priorities for the future of Hemet to be: community safety, transportation management, controlled growth, financial stability, downtown revitalization, and an expanded economic base to promote local job opportunities. I strongly agree with these priorities, and will actively support them if elected. I feel that one of my strongest assets is that I listen. Over the past four years I have listened to the concerns of Hemet residents at City Council meetings and in private discussions throughout the City. Listening to you has convinced me that there is still significant work to be done. Setting future priorities is essential, but attention must also be given to immediate problems such as senior well-being, street repairs, left turn lights onto Florida, tree maintenance, medical services, over crowded schools, and maintaining senior communities status. If elected, my promise to you is to continue to listen and be responsive, accurate, and impartial in carrying out the duties as your Hemet City Council Member. |
