After serving the people of Brentwood for 12 of the past 14 years in public office, both on the school board and city council, I believe that the direction we take this city in the next few years will determine the long-term character and quality of life for our community I'm running to make sure that happens, by putting the people first.

Over the next few years, we have the opportunity to shape Brentwood into the kind of community that we can be proud of and enjoy.

In order to accomplish that, we must improve the regional transportation system, with completion of the Highway 4 Bypass, eBART, a safer Vasco Road, and a wider, improved Byron Highway to Tracy and I-5.

We must attract high-paying jobs to Brentwood so that more of our people can both live and work in town.

We must attract higher-end retail to create a greater sales tax base to pay for basic services, such as police, local roads and recreation.

We must preserve the rich heritage of our downtown, while providing a more vibrant, and thriving business district.

We must also ensure quality parks and recreation for our children and all of us.

We must be financially responsible, as well. It's the people's money we're spending and it must be done with the utmost care, respect and proper stewardship.

In all of this, we must put the will and desires of the people, first, instead of the insiders and people of power and influence.

Throughout this campaign and my term as Mayor, should the people so choose, I will be seeking constant input from the people of Brentwood, through my website, http://www.MayorTaylor.com, through e-mail at bob@mayortaylor.com and by phone at either my home at 634-9539 or on my campaign line at 470-7073.

This campaign is just as President Lincoln said government should be "...of the people, by the people and for the people" which is how our city government should operate, as well.

I appreciate the support of my wife Pam, and so many others who have both encouraged me and are supporting me in this race for Mayor.

As a local farmer, businessman, school board member and councilman, I have learned about and come to appreciate all aspects of our community. I love Brentwood and will work to ensure it remains a place we can all love and enjoy.
