Linda's Statement to Voters

By Linda K. Mayo

Candidate for Board Member; Mount Diablo Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Review Linda's published candidate statement..."Public education for our youth must be our community priority."
Dear Friends: As an involved community leader, parent and volunteer, I bring experience to MDUSD's Board of Education, strengthening our district's ability to implement a responsive, accountable education program. Increasingly our diverse students represent our community throughout the nation and world. Public education for our youth must be our community priority.

My consistent, committed leadership has positively supported Mt. Diablo Unified School District through major challenges: No Child Left Behind, dramatically fluctuating state and federal income, High School Exit Exam, student demographic changes and declining enrollment. Vigilant Measure C construction management meets the pledge to voters for new classrooms and facility improvements and features technology centers at our sixteen middle and high schools. Universities, colleges and technical schools welcome our graduates.

PRIORITIES: Academic excellence is paramount. Graduation rates and student performance steadily improve through my support of increased student access to rigorous program, standardized curriculum, career integrated education, English learner programs, reduced class size and preschool expansion. Staff recruitment, effective training and employee compensation are contributing priorities. Parent involvement, parent friendly and safe schools ensure student success. Adult education and early childhood programs complement our educational offerings.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: MDUSD Governing Board 1997-2006, current president; Measure A Advisory Committee 1989-2006, campaign chairwoman 1988-1989; Contra Costa County's Juvenile Systems Planning Advisory Committee 1996-2004.

Task forces: Safe and Drug Free Schools 1988-2006, Pleasant Hill Flood Control Multi-Agency, Pleasant Hill Recreation and Parks District General Plan, Pleasant Hill City General Plan.

California State PTA Board of Managers 1991-2006; PTA president of Pleasant Hill Elementary, Mt. Diablo Council of PTAs, Contra Costa County's 32nd District PTA; Girl Scout leader, Two Sentinels Girl Scout Camp 1988-2006.

PERSONAL: My husband and I, thirty-two year Pleasant Hill residents, begin our twentieth year as business owners. Our three daughters are successful MDUSD graduates.

Education: BA, CSU Fresno; California public schools; CSBA's Masters in Governance.
