I will fight for a Better BART

By Wade Gomes

Candidate for Director; San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District; Area 2

This information is provided by the candidate
The basic BART system has been neglected and needs attention. Any future extensions should come to the people who have been paying for BART all along.
It appears that over the past several years basic BART has been largely ignored. All the attention has been focused on San Jose extensions and Oakland airport connections and other BART projects. The public has been told it would be too expensive to bring BART out to Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley and Byron or to extend it to Railroad Avenue in Pittsburg. The taxpayers in East Contra Costa have been paying for BART since it's inception and yet still have been denied any BART extension past the Pittsburg/Bay Point station. The stations and trains are not kept clean due to all the employees that have been laid off and their positions eliminated. BART needs a wake up call. The current administration has become complacent and has not made the core BART system their first priority.

As a new BART Director I will fight for change. I will make sure East Contra Costa County becomes the primary focus of any extensions. I will fight to bring back those BART jobs that were responsible for ensuring BART riders entered clean, safe stations and rode on safe, clean, and on-time trains. I will make improving the current BART and making an east Contra Costa County extension my priority.
