My own elementary education took place in Illinois in private schools, including two years in a Catholic school. I went to a public high school in Arizona. During high school I was a very active member of Future Teachers of America. Before my children were born I worked full time. I was in banking starting as a teller. I was then trained in bookkeeping and became head bookkeeper. Later I was again promoted, becoming an operations officer mainly dealing with loans and new accounts. After I moved to California in 1979, I spent several years as an executive secretary in the Bay Area. After my children were born I stayed home to raise them. In spite of not working, I was still able to stay active in various areas of education. For the past twenty years I've been an independent childbirth teacher. I've tutored children in basic reading and math. I volunteered in my children's schools from kindergarten through eighth grade helping in classrooms and computer labs. I was always very active in parent groups in the schools. For the past eight years I've been on the Oroville City Elementary School Board as a trustee. I've been president of the board for the last five years. During the eight years on the board I have taken various courses and attended many conferences and seminars given by the California School Board Association. I am a graduate of their Masters in Governance program. Now that my own children are grown and in college I have even more time to give to the school board. After eight years, I am well aware of the time commitment. I am willing to work my personal schedule around the board meetings and school events. I truly enjoy being involved in the education community here in Oroville. I really appreciate the people who are a part of our district at all levels and in all areas. I like spending time and sharing ideas with them. |
