Anthony's Vision and ValuesBy Anthony WattsCandidate for Board Member; Chico Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Why continuing being a school board trustee is important to me.You may know about my work as an elected trustee during the last four years. CUSD is the largest school district north of Sacramento serving 13,000 students with a $100 million budget. You know the tough decisions I've made with fellow trustees to keep CUSD solvent; you know that I've chosen fiscal responsibility at every turn. I'm proud to say that we are emerging from that difficult time stronger, leaner, with a new superintendent, and a focused vision on individual student achievement My goal is placing kids and their education the first and most important priority, as it should be. Because of my business background in science and technology, I have spearheaded many projects including the Little Chico Creek Elementary School solar project. This project will allow students to learn first-hand how solar energy works + and, how it can reduce our dependence on traditional energy sources while providing economic benefits to CUSD. I believe that a strong academic program including real-world exposure to the sciences will serve our students today and as they seek solutions to real-world challenges tomorrow. Our children not only need exposure to real-world challenges with hands-on educational experiences; they need expanded access to vocational education. That's why I strongly support the creation of a joint venture with Butte College to create a new kind of high school in Chico because not all children learn the same way. I have been and will remain, with your support, a clear voice for academic success for all our students with a focus on practical ideas that foster a climate of learning. My passion for excellence and results has been evident in my professional and volunteer life whether on television and radio or running a successful technology business. I have two children who will enter our schools in the coming years and I understand the stakes for this election. Now, I need your help to keep continue to keep Chico schools on a positive course fiscally and educationally. It is people like you who step forward to make a difference that will be critical in this school board race. See more info at http://www.anthonywatts.com |
