Political Philosophy for Frank Matarrese
Candidate for |
As your Councilmember, I thank you for the privilege of serving our great community. In my first term, I provided leadership that resulted in construction of the new Main Library, replacement of the blighted Bridgeside Center with a vibrant waterfront shopping plaza, improvements of streetscapes on Park and Webster, and relocation of several premiere corporate tenants to our business parks. As a staunch transportation advocate, I fought to save the Harbor Bay Ferry and continue to pursue opportunities to reduce traffic and improve transit in Alameda. When the State and Federal governments cut Alameda's funds, I helped create a fiscally responsible City budget that maintains services and protects our quality of life. I worked for prudent economic growth and tackled tough issues including completing complex Navy negotiations to transfer the former Naval Air Station to the city. We face more challenges and opportunities as the revitalization of Alameda continues and abandoned Navy land becomes part of our community. These challenges will require the forthright political leadership and open communication I demonstrated during my first term. With your support, I will continue working diligently for our community as a member of your City Council. |
