Raise Awareness to Stop Climate Change

By Andy Katz

Candidate for Director; East Bay Municipal Utility District; Ward 4

This information is provided by the candidate
Raise Awareness to Stop Climate Change
In addition to its global impact, climate change also has a serious local impact. Our water supply may be disrupted as up to 80 percent of the Sierra Nevada snowpack melts. Flooding may occur in floodplains that affect the surrounding environment and our water quality. As the sea level rises, the San Francisco Bay Delta will be threatened by increasing salinity. So, we must increase awareness now. Katz strongly supports efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions, such as Assembly Bill 32, which will create a cap and permit system for CO2 emissions in California. Katz supports the use of Community Choice Aggregation by cities or municipal utilities to generate renewable energy, and the increase of EBMUD's solar generation to cover the electricity required by water pumps.
