Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District

Bill Dunlop was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Pennsylvania where he majored in physics. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967 with a BA. He then continued his studies at UCLA receiving a Masters Degree in physics in 1968 and a Ph.D. in physics in 1971.

From 1971 through 1972, Bill was an assistant professor at UCLA. He then went to work for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where he is still working. He has held numerous positions during his career at LLNL. His initial work was as a physicist in the Special Projects Program from 1972-1976. He then served as the Project Manager for a number of major projects. He was the Division Leader overseeing all work on thermonuclear weapons development at LLNL from 1985 until 1990,

Bill has also been involved in arms control issues and activities. He was on the US delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva during the summer of 1979. In 1988 and 1989, he was a member of the US delegation to the Nuclear Testing Talks in Geneva. From Jan. 1994 until Dec. 1995, he served as the Technical Advisor to the US Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament during the negotiation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

From 1990 until 2004 he was the Program Leader overseeing the Non-Proliferation, Arms Control and Treaty Verification work at LLNL. His work has involved numerous trips to Russia, China, Israel and India on Arms Control, Treaty Verification, and Defense Conversion issues. In July of 2004, Dr. Dunlop retired from LLNL. He still works part-time participating in research projects related to seismic verification and in non-proliferation projects and studies.

Bill has also been active in the community. In 1991 a severe budget cut forced the elimination of many activities and programs in the schools. Together with other concerned parents, he helped found the Livermore Valley Education Foundation and was its first President. He continues to serve on the LVEF Board and participate in its meetings and activities. Bill was elected to the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2004.

He has been active in his church serving in many positions from Sunday School Teacher to Choir Director. As a young man he served as a Missionary for his church for 2 years.
