|
On behalf of my fellow Board of Education members and Superintendent Gary McHenry: Dear McKinley, I am writing to thank you for the important work you are doing with our students this summer. We all appreciate your willingness to return to the classroom. As a former teacher and retired administrator of Mt Diablo Unified School District, I know that students have always come first for everyone who works here. You are showing belief in that principle by coming to your classroom each day and tending to the diverse needs of the students you teach. Thanks to your dedication this summer, many students will be able to start school in September with just what they need for a successful year: credit in a particular course, enrichment from a special activity, preparation for a major test, mastery of a new skill, or simply confidence in themselves as capable learners. Sincerely,
Richard Allen, President ------------------------------------------------------------ To Whom It May concern: For over 2 months Mckinley Day has tutored our daughter Molly in Pre-Algebra. Prior to that date Molly, normally an excellent student, had struggled with the material and independent of redoubling her effort could not grasp the concepts in class or in her homework. Mr. Day arrived on scene and overnight was able to change that condition. It is our opinion that key to his approach was as much getting Molly to believe in herself as it was to help her with the concepts! In two nights per week, giving freely of extra hours, he was able to not only coax molly to a 2 grade level improvement, but she actually enjoyed the time and gained confidence each passing week. I would with out hesitation recommend Mr. Day to whatever educational or Mentoring challenge is at hand. His friendliness and enthusiastic attitude coupled with an excellent grasp of the subject matter absolutely make him the correct choice. Respectfully,
David & Deanna Bing ----------------------------------------------------------- Mr. Day has helped our son turn his Algebra II grade from failing in the first semester of his senior year to C+ in the second semester. We think his success is due to Mr. Day's immense dedication and ability to inspire. In addition to teaching the skills necessary to successfully pass the class he would constantly surprise us and our son with written notes of encouragement. There were also times when Mr. Day would deliver additional written explanations of more difficult Algebra assignments that he had reviewed with our son the day before. Again, going above and beyond what we expected to ensure success. Mr. Day is extremely reliable, and he always arrived on time for each scheduled tutoring session.
Our son has been accepted to, and will be attending, Sacramento State University this fall. Without a grade of C or better in his Algebra class, he would not have been accepted to a four-year college or university. We have

----------------------------------------------------------- We have had the pleasure of employing Mr. Mckinley Day as a math tutor since september of 2005 and would highly recommend him as a math instructor. His instruction and commitment has made a huge impact and change in the scholastic life of 2 of our children. Mac has a wonderful rapport with young people and has had a huge influence with the success in math that our children (as well as a group of others) are having in math this year in school. We believe that any school would be lucky to have such a dedicated and talented teacher on their staff. If there is any other information we can provide you, please feel free to call us any time at the numbers listed. Sincerely,
Jeff Anhorn ------------------------------------------------------------ To whom it may concern, I would like to recommend Mr. Mckinley Day to you as a Math teacher. I first met Mr. Day in the fall of 2005. Within one week of joining his class my daughter was doing her math homework every day, and doing EXTRA CREDIT work. My daughter had, for the previous three years, gotten "F" grades in math every single year, despite being tested and found to be gifted, and having no learning disabilities. He inspired her within a very short time. I hired Mr. Day to tutor two children in my family after this early experience. He has been tutoring my daughter in eight grade and my niece in 5th grade. both girls now get "A"s in math on every report card. I have witnessed similar complete turn-arounds in several other children that previously had difficulty with Math, and who are tutored along with my girls.
Mr Day is able to work in groups or individual settings. Mr. Day is a gifted and inspiring math teacher. I urge you to look beyond his somewhat unconventional surface and appreciate his unquestionable talent. Your students will be the ones who benefit. Please call me with any questions or if I can tell you more. I can be reached at home at 925 443-6105, or at work during the day at 925 294-2112 Sincerely,
Stephanie Ball, M.D. ----------------------------------------------------------- To Whom It May Concern, Mac Day has been a math tutor for our son, Will, starting in October 2005 and continuing through May 2006. Will is in 7th grade at a LVJUSD middle school, taking Fundamentals of Pre-Algebra. Mac has met Will twice a week during this time in both one-on-one sessions and in a group tutoring format. We have found Mac to be extremely helpful to Will in getting through a difficult year. Mac has excellent knowledge of the math materials presented in 7th grade, and was very effective in helping Will navigate through an erratic presentation of those materials by his teacher.
Will's grades have risen throughout the time working with Mac, which we attribute to the caring, consistent and patient nature and attitude of Mac day. Mac is a kind man who honestly takes an interest in his students, but more importantly motivates them with his energy and passion to learn. Mac's enthusiam for life is evident as he draws his students into short discussions and analogies of every-day life events where there is a challenge met and overcome. We would recommend Mac Day for any teaching position he may seek. He has made a big impact on our son's education and self esteem this year.
Leeann and Rich Ruef ------------------------------------------------------------ To whom it may concern, I would highly recommend Mr. Mckinley Day to you as a Math teacher or tutor. I met Mr. Day in 2005 when my sister and some other parents hired him to tutor their children after school. I was amazed when my niece, who was struggled with math for years, started getting A+! My 10 year old daughter had been having trouble with her 5th grade math and I wasn't able to help her so, I decided to hire Mr. Day to spend time tutoring her two days a week. She meets with him one day a week at our home and once in a classroom setting. Mr. Day and the students do well in either setting. Since I signed Tai up with Mr. day, I have seen a huge improvement in, not only her Math, but other subjects as well. Mr. Day has a unique gift to give any student. He builds up their confidence and inspires them to do better, and he seems to do it in a way that the kids understand and respond to. My daughter is not so frightened of Math since Mr. Day started tutoring her. I really wish I had had a "Mr Day" in my school days! If you have any further questions that you need to ask me I can be reached at home at 925 443-6105 or work 925 424 1170. Sincerely,
Valerie Ball |
