JOHN BECKMAN Age: 37 Occupation: City Council Member

My education and qualifications are: Growing up and working on the family ranch west of Lodi I experienced the difficulties and rewards of farming. Since earning my law degree my career has included practicing law, teaching as a college professor, serving as a legislative aide, and serving as an advocate for the construction industry.

During my tenure on the Lodi City Council I have had many accomplishments, however a few that stand out are: helping to create the Budget and Finance Commission to better monitor City spending, introducing an ordinance to limit the use of condemnation/eminent domain to protect the private property rights of our citizens, and securing more water rights for Lodi.

My family has a history of community involvement and volunteer work, and I am proud to continue that tradition. I have spent thousands of hours volunteering for several local organizations and commissions. Currently I serve on the Delta Protection Commission, the San Joaquin County Water and Flood Control Commission, the Habitat and Conservation Plan Committee, and the 2x2x2 Greenbelt Commission.

As a lifelong resident of San Joaquin County I know what makes this County successful and I know how to keep us moving in the right direction.

Mi educación y calificaciones son: Debido a que me crié y trabajé en la finca de mi familia en el oeste de Lodi, conocí las dificultades y la satisfacción de la vida agrícola. Desde que obtuve mi diploma en leyes, mi carrera ha incluido ejercer derecho, enseñar como profesor universitario, trabajar como ayudante legislativo y desempeñarme como defensor del sector de la construcción.

Durante mi permanencia en el Concejo de la Ciudad de Lodi he tenido muchos logros, pero hay algunas que sobresalen y éstas son: ayudé a formar la Comisión del Presupuesto y Finanzas para vigilar mejor el desembolso de los fondos municipales, presenté una ordenanza para restringir el uso de la expropiación forzosa y de esta manera proteger el derecho que nuestros ciudadanos tienen a la propiedad privada, y obtuve más derechos de agua para Lodi.

Mi familia tiene un historial de participación comunitaria y de trabajo voluntario, y estoy orgulloso de continuar esa tradición. He dedicado miles de horas trabajando como voluntario para varias organizaciones y comisiones locales. Actualmente, me desempeño en la Comisión de Protección Delta, la Comisión de Aguas y Control de Inundaciones del Condado de San Joaquín, el Comité sobre Hábitat y Planes de Conservación, y la Comisión de la Zona Verde 2x2x2.

Como residente del Condado de San Joaquín de toda la vida, yo sé lo que hace que éste Condado sea exitoso y sé cómo seguir moviéndonos en la dirección correcta.
