Craig Kunitani is a lifelong Democrat who has been working and living in Monterey County since 1992. Since 2004 he has been co-chair of the Information Technology committee of the Monterey County Democrats and a precinct captain of his neighborhood. He was a delegate to the California Democratic Party Convention in 2005 and 2006.

Craig was born and raised in San Mateo, California. As an undergraduate, he studied biology and mathematics, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Statistics from U. C. Berkeley. While working at the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, Craig developed an interest in computer numerical modeling, which led him to return to college to earn a Masters in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Craig pursued his career with positions at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the computer companies Silicon Graphics and Cray Research. He moved to the Monterey area in 1992 to work as a contractor at Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center. In 1994, Craig co-founded Pangaea, an Information Technology and Security company, which consults with the Naval Research Laboratory. In 1998, the Small Business Administration awarded Pangaea the Administrator's Award of Excellence.

Craig is an avid bicyclist who is a regular in the Velo Club Monterey peloton and on the trails of Fort Ord. He has volunteered at the Sea Otter Classic and Tour of California bicycle races. He also enjoys traveling stateside and abroad. Craig has been happily married for 14 years.
