Candidate for
Sheriff; County of Los Angeles

As the only candidate who is not a career Los Angeles County Deputy, I bring an unbiased view to the department. A fresh set of yes,ideas and concepts. I am able to look at the budget which has been continually overspent by the current administration and make approrpiate recommendations and changes to bring it into balance without tax increases.

I am able to provide new direction and policies to address the growing list of challenges faced by the department:

Such as stopping the current practice of "The Early Release Program" which allows prisoners to serve less than 10-25% of their sentenced time, putting violent people back out on the street with virutally no punishment for their deeds;

I will address the current administrations failure to attract and retain deputy sheriffs. With over 1200 current vacancies and an anticipated 2000 more, over the next 24 months. The current recruiting practices have seen a net gain of only 17 deputies per year. I will introduce strategies that will encourage experienced deputies to stay as well as implement an aggressive and proven recruitment plan to ensure proper staffing of the department.

I will put into place immediate policies and practices to correct the current Adminsitraor's failure to properly classify prisoners within the jail system: the poor practice of mixing of high risk and low risk offenders which has resulted in jail riots and unnecessary deaths.

I will correct the current detrimental practices of having deputies working as many as 60 hours or more per week, 16 hour shifts for up to six years as custodians of prisoners in the jail system.
