Questions & Answers

1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

I have lived, worked or owned property in this district since I was seven. I am a veteran public school teacher and President of The Wyoming Education Association. I have been Hamilton County Recorder, President of the College Hill Redevelopment Corporation and a Mt. Healthy City Council Member.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

End all unfunded state mandates. Ohio needs to become a global educational center by 2010, through an alliance of our universities, corporations and the state. Cincinnati has the best historic housing stock in the America. Provide all sorts of tax credits to those families, individuals and developers that maintain the historic and diverse nature of our neighborhoods. Currently there are only tax credits for those who rehabilitate and sell or rent the structure they rehabilitated. Stop unsustainable growth through adequate zoning. Stop spending a fortune in outlying areas while the city infrastructure crumbles and green spaces are deforested.

3. What changes would you recommend for improving public oversight of charter schools? (150 word limit)

Schools must be required to take all state tests. Charter or parochial school attendees must be means tested in order to receive tax dollars. Financial records must be audited just like public schools. Accreditation must be tightened and professional certification must be possessed by seventy percent of the teaching staff.

4. Ohio has the highest foreclosure rate in the nation. What actions would you support at the state level to address this crisis? (150 word limit)

End predatory lending. Ohio banks should assist not only in purchase but also in maintenance of home quality. Increase tax credits for senior citizens remaining in their already or nearly owned homes if family members or care givers join them. Institute a competitive energy market.

5. Both parties have called for redistricting reform. What three top criteria should be used in redrawing legislative districts? (150 word limit)

Remove partisan politicians from the Apportionment Board and allow geographers and demographic experts from our universities to drawn districts that are:

- Same size in population
- Maintain neighborhood and political boundaries' integrity
- Have roughly the same number of independent voters
- Are racially blind

The overall goal should be the creation of sixty percent of our districts as swing or marginal districts and forty percent partisan democratic or republican. Safe districts are counter productive to democracy.
