1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Peggy S. Braun:

During my four years on the Board, our District has had unprecedented academic achievement while growth in expenditures average just 2.9% over the last 3 years. As the current president, I've successfully worked for the development of an aggressive Long-range plan that guarantees continued academic achievement with responsible budget growth.

Answer from Ken White:

I am a candidate promoting ideas. This campaign is about issues and not about me. I am not worried about the success of our schools in next few years but I am worried about where will we be in 20 years. I want to implement a plan for our schools which assures our continued success and vision.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Ken White:

1. Form separate volunteer based citizens committees for key issues: facilities, spending, revenue and programs.
2. Invite an OSFC review (Ohio School Facilities Report)and an OSBA (Ohio School Board Association) review ofour needs and make the reports public
3. Develop a true STRATEGIC PLAN not just a set of short term strategic goals by drawing on the excellent plans of Fairfax and Columbia Township

Answer from Peggy S. Braun:

I will continue to implement a strong academic curriculum, maintain appropriate class size, and cultivate parental involvement. During my tenure, the board has adopted a new "world-class" math curriculum that will elevate our students' abilities. I will require financial accountability by containing budget growth, soliciting alternative funding sources and closely scrutinizing expenditures. I am committed to providing the best educational opportunities for our students at the most reasonable cost to taxpayers I will continue to support the recruitment and retention of quality teachers and administrators who are the cornerstone of our tradition of academic excellence.

3. What will you do as a Board of Education member to increase parental involvement in your school system? (100 word limit)

Answer from Peggy S. Braun:

We are fortunate to have wonderful parental involvement, but we should not take it for granted. I believe good two-way communication with parents will increase their participation and involvement. During my tenure, communications improvements have included updated quarterly newsletter with in-depth articles by the board, superintendent, and treasurer, upgraded web site, quarterly letters to all residents from the board regarding recent issues and decisions, building principal's email updates to parents. As parental involvement is one of this district's core values, I will support teachers and administrators as they pursue new, creative methods of engaging our parents.

Answer from Ken White:

Our district has a history of selecting committees for gathering public opinions about issues and developing strategies behind closed doors. We should invite and embrace all volunteers to participate in committees that address issues they are passionate about. The Schools are owned by and accountable to the taxpayers. The school board is the carekeeper. The board must be TRANSPARENT in it's finances and planning to gain the public's involvement and support.
