As we go back to school this week, there is one very important, simple piece of advice I have learned as a school board member over the years. Studies have consistently demonstrated that when children see their parents involved at their school, even minimally, they will work harder.

They recognize that if it is important to Mom and Dad, it must be important for them.

Students, ask Mom or Dad to visit your school and be involved in PTA/PTO or other school volunteering activities.

Parents, even if your children say they are embarrassed, they still see your care and concern for their success. Believe it or not, they really want to please you.
