Political Philosophy for Marty Miller
Candidate for |

|
I have been a community advocate and civic leader for many years. In the early 1980s I successfully advocated for Cupertino's first "no smoking ordinance." More recently as a Planning Commissioner, I helped facilitate issue resolution in many neighborhoods, including the Blue Pheasant area, Oak Valley, Linwood Acres, and the Regnart Creek area. I am running for City Council to help ensure that Cupertino remains a great place to live, work, and raise children. Cupertino faces serious challenges such as determining acceptable future growth, revitalizing a struggling retail district, addressing a structural budget deficit, and fostering a strong, inclusive multicultural community. To accomplish this, I believe in taking a proactive approach. It is important to do forward planning and involve the community in that planning in order control growth and development in our City. It is important that we identify and solve problems before they reach a boiling point to avoid costly initiative battles that consume time and resources that could have been put to better use. In these endeavors it is important that we involve all the residents in Cupertino. Cupertino is a multicultural City, and I believe that we should focus more attention on that reality. I believe we can do more to help our new residents with the challenge of living in a new culture and with a new language. Our world class companies, Apple and HP, employ the best and the brightest from many cultures. They integrate people of many different cultures into the corporate environment and maximize their contributions. Let's make Cupertino a model for a successful multicultural community like Apple and HP have become models of successful multicultural companies. Finally, I moved to this city, like many of you, for the school system and the suburban character of the community. It's just a great place to raise a family. I want to do everything I can to protect and maintain our schools and the integrity of our suburban neighborhoods. I am committed to meeting these challenges. Please help me to address them by voting for me on November 8th. For more information, please go to my website at: http://www.martymiller.net or send me an email at marty@martymiller.net or call me at 253-1168. I would love to hear from you. |
