A RECORD OF EIGHT YEARS OF SCHOOL BOARD ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I am very proud of my record of accomplishments in eight years on the Newhall School Board:
- Built three new schools - McGrath, Pico Canyon and Oak Hills
- Ended overcrowding and the multi-track calendar
- Reduced class sizes in primary grades from 30 to 20 students per class
- Installed a district-wide state-of-the-art computer network
- Developed and implemented a standards based technology curriculum to integrate that technology with the instructional program
- All eligible schools recognized as either a National Blue Ribbon School, California Distinguished School, or Title I Achieving School (8 total awards)
- Remodeled and modernized Wiley Canyon, Old Orchard and Meadows elementary schools. Modernization projects are underway at Peachland and Newhall schools.
- Passed a $35 million construction bond with a 2/3 majority (Measure K)
- Leveraged our $35 million construction bond into a $56 million construction fund thru state matching funds, investment returns and bond refinancings
- Implemented a standards-based curriculum
- Maintained healthy reserves and a balanced budget through eight years of volatile state funding
- Maintained important supplemental programs like the Music Program.
