TEACHING CAREER:

I taught for six years (1996-2002) as a Special Education Instructor at South Hills High School in West Covina. As a club advisor for deaf students at South Hills High School, I taught fund-raising skills and parliamentary procedures. I was a member of the Coordination Compliance Review Process team, reviewing files of all Special Education students to verify compliance with State and Federal laws. I participated in the Beginning Teacher Support Assessment (BTSA) program for one year. I understand how to implement Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) and have worked with teachers and parents through the IEP process to help students with disabilities achieve better academic skills. For several years, I was involved in the Optimist Club Speech Contest, coaching deaf students on their speeches for the contest. I was involved in Academic Bowl and other student club activities. I also enjoyed being a basketball coach and a cheerleader coach at South Hills. During the last two years, I have worked as a substitute teacher at California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR), having taught at all grade levels K-12, including students with Special Needs. In addition, I was an American Sign Language Instructor for parents and community members for four years.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE: I was active in Little League Baseball as an assistant coach, a head coach, and an umpire. My service at Cedargrove Elementary school, where my two daughters are now enrolled, include serving on the School Site Council.

FAMILY: My wife Lisa and I have been married for 17 years and we have three children, ages eight, six, and four. We live in the Charter Oak Unified School District for six years.

MY COMMITMENT TO COUSD: My involvement in the community helps me understand how important our civic duty is, and I hope to extend my duty by serving on the School Board.
