Using the limited environmental areas in Hermosa Beach to subsidize parking, is not only a bad idea, but incredibly ineffective.
The Greenbelt area between Ardmore and Valley is one of the many historical gems that exist in Hermosa Beach. A proposal was started to use the area to subsidize parking in Hermosa Beach. This is a horrible idea. We need to do everything to preserve the limited environmental areas that exist in this ever-changing city.
An alternative to this idea would be to properly optimize the parking areas that are currently in use. The structures on 11th st. and Hermosa and 14th st; behind Undergound, are both zoned for multi-level parking. This would begin to alleviate the parking problems in the downtown area.
The city of Hermosa Beach has also purchased the property to the south of city hall. A multi-level parking structure in that location would also help to combat the parking issues and would not block any housing views.
With this many alternatives, it would be completely irresponsible to eliminate the Greenbelt area for parking reasons.
