The role of a school board member is to provide citizen oversight, guidance and approval for the management of a school district. If elected, I will use my experience in business management to provide the optimal balance among the interests of students, teachers, parents, administrators and taxpayers.

Growing up in Torrance, I received the benefit of a terrific education in our public schools. As the father of two young children who will attend Torrance schools, I am committed to ensuring that our current and future students receive the best education that can be provided.

The most recent challenges to the quality of education in our District have resulted from problems that occurred far away from the classroom. Operational and financial management failures at both the state and local level have impacted the quality of education in Torrance through class size increases, poorly maintained facilities, and a failure to provide competitive compensation to our teachers. I have heard the excuses for these problems from District management, but have not seen them demonstrate accountability.

The primary commitment of our District must always be to the quality of education in Torrance. Even in the most difficult economic times, cutting the quality of education should be seen as failure. I know that we can do better!

I intend to work with the District and its constituents to provide the long term solutions and vision that has been sorely lacking. In doing so, I will always listen to and respect the ideas being offered from the community.

We are fortunate to live in a wonderful community full of citizens who have voluntarily reached into their own pockets to help when needed. While I appreciate their heroic effort and financial contributions, I believe that the proper use of taxpayer funds should provide for our basic educational programs. As a Board member, I will demand that responsible financial practices are applied across the District.

Beyond my high expectations for the quality of education in Torrance, my business experience enables me to provide the management oversight and guidance that our District needs and our community deserves.

My commitment to you is that I will constantly strive for excellent results by working with District management to ensure that they are accountable to our community and to maintaining the high quality of education in Torrance Schools.
