My Thoughts on Re-ElectionBy Saundra (Wakefield) Davis, M.A.Candidate for Governing Board Member; Culver City Unified School District | |

A newspaper asked each candidate why they should be re-elected. This is my response.I should be re-elected because I am a tireless advocate for our students. I'm an experienced teacher and the mother of eight children who attended Culver City Schools. For this reason, I understand both sides. I know the importance of listening to students, parents and community members (our constituents). I've worked relentlessly on behalf of our Culver City students to get results. My vision, persistence and work ethics on behalf of our Culver City Unified School District have earned me many, many awards from every level of government, elected officials, large corporations and local agencies, For me, it truly is "ALL ABOUT THE KIDS" and we're Getting Results:
2. I seek and encourage parent, community and teacher involvement as well as partnerships. This provides a vast array as well as the best resources local agencies have to offer our Culver City Educational System. An example of this is the partnership I initiated with the Claire Foundation, offering Culver City Schools $10,000 in services for drug and alcohol intervention to be used by our Culver City Youth Health Center and/or school sites. 3. I initiated the partnership with Culver City Unified School District and the California Highway Patrol to implement the "Every Fifteen Minute" safety awareness program. 5. I advocated for the now school-wide standards based Arts Program from the very beginning. I opted to sit on that committee, soliciting buy-in to get it off the ground, and as a team we wrote the policy that gave it a breath of life. 4. I successfully worked with Supervisor Yvonne Braithwaite Burke on behalf of the Culver City Unified School District to acquire the County Assessors Office building for Adult School Classes. 5. I continually advocate for Culver City's Adult School programs including Family Literacy. I think it's most important to remember that we have Senior Citizens and other Adult Students who are enrolled in these classes on a regular basis. They need our support too. 6. I should be re-elected because I'm Capable. I'm Accessible. I Listen. I Care. 7. My commitment to CCUSD students prompted me to earn my Masters In Governance from the Calif. School Boards Association. 8. I'm honored to be endorsed by: California Teacher's Association D.C., Culver City Democratic Club, Los Angeles County Democratic Party, Congresswoman Diane E. Watson, Senator Kevin Murray, Assemblywoman Karen Bass, Supervisor Yvonne Braithwaite-Burke, Speaker Emeritus Herb Wesson, Vice-Mayor Gary Silbiger, past school-board members Barbara Honig and Madeline Ehrlich, and many Culver City Commissioners. Please know that it's with the utmost sincerity that I reiterate my commitment to our students and to this district. I will continue to put the Students first in all decisions I make as a Culver City School Board Member. I Appreciate and Thank You for your continued support.
