Candidate statement

By Jessica Beagles-Roos

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Culver City Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The 200 word statement highlights my background and major areas of interest.
My commitment to public education is unwavering. I want to provide every CCUSD student with the best possible education. I want to set a direction toward educational excellence and innovation, so I seek reelection.

My experience and background are valuable assets when making decisions. Having been a parent at elementary, middle and high school levels provides a crucial perspective. Participation in volunteer organizations such as PTA and CCEF revealed the importance of parental and community involvement for public education. My educational (PhD in Psychology, UCLA) and teaching background, which focused on infant through adult learning, aids my understanding of educational issues and research. As a board member I've had experience making difficult decisions and influencing district programs and policies.

Higher levels of achievement and learning for all students remain my ultimate goal. I support the development of teams to set goals and solve problems; the enhancement of the instructional program including arts, career, physical education, and technology; the expansion of peer mediation/ interaction programs; a safe and secure learning environment, and the availability of health and after school programs.
