Changes to Existing City Clerk's OfficeBy Gary J. SysockCandidate for City Clerk; City of Glendale | |

Government today is demanding work. There are shortages in staff, budget and time. At the same time there has never been a society more advanced in communications, whether it be cell phones, television, print or the Internet. The City Clerk's office is a vital point of contact and a portal to government for Glendale's citizens. I would like to work with the city to create a new foundation for the clerk's office. My goal would be to modernize the way the office does business by bringing internal efficiencies and organization first, then using those same platforms to extend participation to the citizens of Glendale. My vision of the future would be an office that can not only handle walk-in business easily, but also extend those same services, where law allows, to businesses and homes for those that would rather use the phone or internet to conduct business. I have worked on projects that use digital signatures, live-scan electronic finger printing and secure access to websites for Government business. I understand the complexities of doing electronic government. It is far more complicated then using a credit card to purchase an item over the internet, and more confusing then browsing selections in a catalogue. My first goal would be to use that vision to guide our office forward as funds and resources become available. I have been doing similar things with LA County and our Department has not received budget increases for several years. I understand what it takes to bring change to Government in these times of shrinking budget and see this as an opportunity to help the City into the future. |
